The Scribe draws its inspiration from the materials and craft of medieval illuminated manuscript production and the breathtaking effects the master illuminators were able to create with such painstaking care. If you’ve ever had the good fortune to see (or, better yet, turn the pages of) such a manuscript, you’ll know exactly the kind of magic I’m talking about: the way light flashes and bursts from the pages thanks to the careful use of gold-foil, especially if it’s set starkly against the kind of vivid blue that only ultramarine pigment (more precious than gold, and extracted from crushed lapis lazuli) can provide. Lapis with glorious pyrite inclusions (a gift from @flannerygrace when I ordered a bunch of beads from her a while back), in fact, are the focal beads for this strand, and I’ve also included dashes of warm-toned hematite among the onyx and spinel to imitate the gold foil’s effect on the page. I also included some clear quartz, which — if you catch them just right in the light — seem to glow from within in the most lovely way. And I couldn’t resist adding the stunning pewter feather made by the amazing @greengirlstudios — a nod to that most necessary of scribal tools, the goose-quill pen.
I have supplies for three of these strands and do not anticipate making more until I’m able to source conflict-free/vintage lapis. Strands will be made-to-order and shipped 7-10 days after purchase.
